Will Siri Become Like ChatGPT and Gemini?

Apple is working on a huge AI update for Siri, making it more like ChatGPT and Gemini.

Apple seems ready to make a significant change to Siri , its voice assistant. According to a recent Bloomberg report, the Cupertino company is reportedly working on a major AI upgrade, aiming to make Siri more similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

This new system, dubbed “ LLM Siri ,” would leverage artificial intelligence models developed by Apple to enable more fluid and natural interactions

How LLM Siri will be different from Siri

But how would LLM Siri be different? From what we know, the update would do more than just improve natural language understanding. Apple is aiming to make Siri capable of handling more complex tasks, like typing and summarizing text, thanks to integration with Apple Intelligence . Siri should also gain a greater ability to interact with third-party apps via App Intents.

While Apple has yet to make any official statements, Bloomberg suggests that the company could announce its plans as early as next year, with the aim of implementing the new system by spring 2026 .

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal last month, Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software, offered some interesting insights into the differences between Apple’s approach and OpenAI’s. Federighi noted that ChatGPT excels at creative tasks and answering complex questions, but lacks the practical capabilities that Siri has, like interacting with home devices or sending messages.

Apple has so far been cautious about integrating AI into its products. Just last month, with the release of the iOS 18.2 beta , Siri gained ChatGPT integration. Apple has more updates planned for next year, including Siri’s ability to “understand” what’s on your screen and perform actions within apps.
