New wave of hacking attempts by pro-Russian hackers Noname057 this day on the webpages of Italian departments and organizations. As usual, these are Ddos (Distributed denial of service) actions that are causing some inconvenience and temporary interruption of service.
The Csirt team of the National Cybersecurity Agency is working to support the affected entities in restoring functionality. Among the attacked sites are the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Infrastructure and Transport, Consob, Carabinieri, Navy, Air Force, as well as local public transport companies such as Atac in Rome, Amat in Palermo, Amt in Genoa.
Hackers Targets already hit
The attacks hit the same targets as a couple of weeks ago. The new thing is that they started earlier, around 7. Some sites reported disruptions for an hour, but no particular critical issues were recorded.
To mitigate the effects of the offensive, the IT managers of the organizations involved have used various techniques, first and foremost “geofencing”, which means raising a fence to access requests, closing the door to those coming from certain areas, such as Russia. Traffic redirection is also one of the methods used to protect the sites.
The attack on Meloni: “Help Zelensky”
Announcing their attack on the websites of Italian ministries, the cybercriminals criticized Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Telegram. “They said that during his visit to Rome, Italian PM Meloni communicated with Vladimir Zelensky. Meloni claims that Italy will support ukraine in defending its rights and working toward a fair and sustainable peace. The conversations lasted roughly an hour and tried to enhance Kiev’s position.”
They then added: “Italy should start helping itself and, first of all, its cybersecurity.” The National Cybersecurity Agency is supporting the restoration of the various sites and the mitigation of the attacks.https://youtube.com/shorts/BTEKUQM_IBA?si=-wX_6Ff_ArI_28FZ
