X’s new AI image generator, Aurora, appeared and disappeared within a matter of hours . Apparently it had arrived on Grok a little too early.
X’s new AI image generator, called Aurora , has been a buzzword, but it didn’t last long, at least in its first outing. After impressing with the realism of the images it generated, which were promptly shared on X, Aurora disappeared from Grok’s model selection menu on Sunday afternoon, replaced by “Grok 2 + FLUX (beta).”
But what happened? And why was Aurora online for so little time? The owner of X, Elon Musk , explains it, in part.
Elon Musk’s response on Aurora AI
In response to a user who shared photographs made with the program, Elon Musk stated that Aurora is their “internal image generation system” that is still in beta. So it’s likely that it ended up being available to some users by simple mistake .
The incident comes just days after Grok 2 was made free to all users, though with restrictions for free users. Aurora, like its predecessor, was quick to raise concerns about content moderation. Aurora was able to generate controversial images, such as “a bloody [Donald] Trump,” and copyrighted characters, such as Mickey Mouse. However, the system apparently had some restrictions, such as not generating nudity.https://youtu.be/WvNi8OA5pTo?si=uqjwXBwXKLn9cZr5
